The Pain Behind My Eyes

They see my smile, don’t see my pain,

Don’t know the nights I stood in rain.

Some wounds heal, some cut deep,

Some tell stories that scars don’t speak.

I was just a kid when the world turned cold,

Learned about pain before I could grow old.

Heart full of questions, nobody replied,

So I learned how to smile with the hurt inside.

I was everybody’s shelter, everybody’s friend,

But nobody saw me breaking when I tried to pretend.

Had some nights I was praying just to see the light,

Fighting battles in my head every single night.

Gave love to people who were breaking me,

Kept my heart open when I wanted to leave.

They only saw strength, never saw the cost,

Never counted all the pieces of myself I lost.

Oh, I’ve been low, I’ve been weak,

Had a thousand words I couldn’t speak.

But I made it through the darkest nights,

Still got love, still got life.
