The Fire She Made

Don’t tell me that’s a victory

Don’t tell me that’s a win

I walked. You stayed.

That’s the whole damn story

I got out with my name

You kept the wreckage with you

He did to you

What you did to me

And you still chose the fire

You still chose the thief

They can call it fate

They can call it growth

I call it you staying

In a house you both broke

They’re clapping for the man I became

She’s still standing in the fire she made

They’re clapping for the man I became

She’s still standing in the fire she made

I got away, she held the match

And the room still cheers like that’s a win

I don’t need a thank you

I don’t need a look

I don’t need her family

Writing me into her book

Getting out ain’t glory

Staying ain’t love

One of us survived it

One of us gave up

They’re clapping for the man I became

She’s still standing in the fire she made

I got away, she held the match

Don’t clap for me

Don’t clap for that

I walked.

You stayed.

That’s not a win.

That’s a grave.
