Settling with me

Mmm, yeah

I found a place where my breathing comes easy

No locked rooms, no need to disappear

God knew the season

Listen close now

My heart moves toward you without counting the cost

Like a small porch light left on after everyone’s gone

I used to call surrender love, wore silence like a dress

Handed over every boundary, hoping you would guess

But you met me with a patience I had never learned to trust

A steady hand beside mine, no performance, no rush

Now I can say what I need and watch you stay right there

No bargaining for kindness, no disappearing into air

The first night we talked, my shoulders came down

Something in your quiet made a home of this town

I traded restless guessing for a floor beneath my feet

And every little honest thing made peace feel more complete

S-s-settling in the light

I settled in my soul, finally breathing deep

All the noise that chased me has grown quiet in my sleep

And I know it’s you, the one I want beside my life

No more borrowed corners, no more rehearsing why

You took me from the places where I learned to hide my tears

Held the door wide open, let the morning reach my years

Now I’m standing here with you, unafraid and free

What a beautiful difference, you settling with me

Mmm, no locked doors

I can tell the truth and still be yours

Mmm, no more running

Peace has got a name, and I hear it coming

There’s a grocery list folded underneath the keys

You laugh because I always buy the coffee before the cheese

A quick stop turns to talking in the parked car after dark

Your thumb draws little circles on the back of my hand

I’ve met the people you love, and you introduce me plain

No careful edits to the story, no disguising my name

The ordinary feels holy when it isn’t built on fear

A shared cup by the window, knowing you are really here

You said, “I’ll keep you safe,” and I believed your tone

Not because you made a promise, but because you made it known

God knew the hour my heart could open without fight

He led me from the waiting to this simple kind of right

S-s-settling in the light

I settled in my soul, finally breathing deep

All the noise that chased me has grown quiet in my sleep

And I know it’s you, the one I want beside my life

No more borrowed corners, no more rehearsing why

You took me from the places where I learned to hide my tears

Held the door wide open, let the morning reach my years

Now I’m standing here with you, unafraid and free

What a beautiful difference, you settling with me

I remember thinking peace belonged to someone else

To people with clean hands and a kinder view of themselves

I accepted half a welcome, waited by an unused chair

Prayed in rooms with no windows for a love that would stay there

Now we walk into the café, your arm around my waist

No secret little exits, no hurry to erase

You arrived when I was ready to receive what I had prayed

And put a steady ground beneath the life I’m learning to make

He knew the season, He knew the hour

He brought me back to my own power

No restless butterflies, no alarm inside my chest

I am safe in honest love, I am finally at rest

Open the door, let the whole room see

I am not a secret, I am here, I am me

I settled in my soul, finally breathing deep

All the noise that chased me has grown quiet in my sleep

And I know it’s you, the one I want beside my life

No more borrowed corners, no more rehearsing why

You took me from the places where I learned to hide my tears

Held the door wide open, let the morning reach my years

Now I’m standing here with you, unafraid and free

What a beautiful difference, you settling with me

God knew the season

He knew the hour

No secret rooms

Just love with room to flower

Mmm, settling with you

Settling with me
