One More Song

We said we’d try a song

Just to see how it would go

Now the sun is going down

And neither wants to go

There’s a guitar on the floor

Half a chorus on the screen

A dozen little melodies

And nowhere else to be

Maybe we should call it

Maybe we should stop

But you just played another chord

And now I’ve got a thought

So how about one more song?

One more reason to stay

One more melody

Before we call it a day

We don’t have to know

What we’re trying to say

We can figure it out

Somewhere along the way

One more song

Then maybe we’ll be done

But we both know

We’ll probably make another one

If every little ending

Turns into something new

Then I don’t mind

One more song with you

Some ideas disappear

The second that they land

Somehow you always seem to know

The ones I meant to keep

You change a word, I change a chord

We laugh and start again

It doesn’t really matter

Who came up with what or when

We could leave it unfinished

Come back another day

But you’re already humming

And I know I’m gonna stay

So how about one more song?

One more reason to stay

One more melody

Before we call it a day

We don’t have to know

What we’re trying to say

We can figure it out

Somewhere along the way

One more song

Then maybe we’ll be done

But we both know

We’ll probably make another one

If every little ending

Turns into something new

Then I don’t mind

One more song with you

Maybe it’s the timing

Maybe it’s the sound

Maybe some ideas

Just need two people around

You bring half a melody

I bring half a line

Put the pieces together

And somehow they sound right

No need to name it

No need to know

Where any of this goes

Just don’t pack up yet

I’ve got one more note

So how about one more song?

One more reason to stay

One more melody

Before we call it a day

We don’t have to know

What we’re trying to say

We can figure it out

Somewhere along the way

One more song

Then maybe we’ll be done

But we both know

We’ll probably make another one

If every little ending

Turns into something new

Then I don’t mind

One more song with you

One more song?

One more song.
