Let Love Be My Middle Name

I wake where the palm leaves paint the morning gold

Coffee on the porch, got a story to be told

Down by the shoreline, children chase the foam

I carry one promise everywhere I roam

No need for a crown, no need for a claim

If you ask me who I am, remember this name

When the road gets rough and the sky turns gray

I keep a little light for the ones who lose their way

Let love be my middle name

Let love be my middle name

From the first sunrise to the last train

Let love be my middle name

(Oh-oh, let it be)

Let love be my middle name

I saw an old man sharing mangoes at the gate

He gave the sweetest half and never made us wait

A neighbor brought a ladder when the roof began to leak

That’s the kind of wealth I want, the kind you give away freely

So I’ll leave a chair open, keep water by the door

Make room at the table for one more, maybe four

When the city talks loud and the dollars pull the strings

I remember what a helping hand can bring

Let love be my middle name

Let love be my middle name

From the first sunrise to the last train

Let love be my middle name

(Oh-oh, let it be)

Let love be my middle name

If I stumble, let kindness be the ground beneath my feet

If I’m angry, let patience turn the bitter into sweet

And when my days are counted, when the final song is played

Let the people that I lifted be the footprints that I made

Let love be my middle name

Let love be my middle name

From the first sunrise to the last train

Let love be my middle name

(Oh-oh, let it be)

Let love be my middle name

On the backroad, by the ocean, in the pouring rain

Wherever life may take me, I’ll answer to the same

Let love be my middle name

Let love be my middle name
