Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I took a vacation to the moon last night
Everything was glowing in a violet light
Everybody moonwalked down the avenue
Nobody seemed surprised, nobody had a clue
The neighbors walked a French poodle named Lemon Drop
Six feet with every step and she just wouldn't stop
The trees grew underneath the dome overhead
I wrote a postcard home but forgot what it said
[Pre-Chorus]
It's automatic
It's so dramatic
Nobody's asking why
[Chorus]
Vay cay on the moon
Watching Earthrise in the afternoon
Vay cay on the moon
Everybody's dancing to a different tune
Come with us next time
We'll save a place for you
Vay cay on the moon
Nothing else to do
[Verse 2]
At night we danced among the stars
In a ballroom sixty feet high
Oldies on the stereo
Saturn drifting by
Pomegranate spritzers in a silver glass
Fluffy bon bons disappearing fast
Everybody laughing at a private joke
The band kept playing through a cloud of lunar smoke
[Pre-Chorus]
It's synthetic
Almost magnetic
Nobody wants to leave
[Chorus]
Vay cay on the moon
Watching Earthrise in the afternoon
Vay cay on the moon
Everybody's dancing to a different tune
Come with us next time
We'll save a place for you
Vay cay on the moon
Nothing else to do
Verse 3]
The hotel had a swimming pool of powdered silver gray
People floated through the lobby on their lunch hour break
A jukebox played tomorrow's hits from nineteen ninety-two
I knew every single word somehow, and so did you
[Pre-Chorus]
It's synthetic
Almost magnetic
Nobody wants to leave
[Chorus]
Vay cay on the moon
Watching Earthrise in the afternoon
Vay cay on the moon
Everybody's dancing to a different tune
Come with us next time
We'll save a place for you
Vay cay on the moon
Nothing else to do
[Bridge]
Surfing down the dust
Of a lunar lake
Take another left
At the crater break
Everything feels close
Everything feels far
Dancing on the moon
Underneath the stars
[Pre-Chorus]
It's synthetic
Almost magnetic
Nobody wants to leave
[Final Chorus]
Vay cay on the moon
Watching Earthrise in the afternoon
Vay cay on the moon
Everybody's dancing to a different tune
Come with us next time
We'll save a place for you
Vay cay on the moon
Nothing else to do
[Outro]
The postcard finally arrived today
No return address
Just one line:
Wish you were here.
