Side by side

You stepped out of neon lights,

Deadly smirk and reckless eyes.

Bumped into me like I'm not there,

Like you just don't care —

Careful now - watch where you're going,

Arrogance and tattooed skin showing.

That kind of charm won't pull me in,

It doesn't spark a fire within.

You can see me? - You have the Sight.

Most mundanes see black and white.

You're looking past the glamour's skin -

Those aren't Tattoos, That's angel ink.

Blades and demons, blood and night,

I don't pose - I kill what bites.

So who are you? Tell me your name -

Then maybe I won't play this game.

Why am I drawing what you hide?

These marks were burned behind my eyes.

That rune you drew? Angelic art.

You were born to see the mark -

Not turn your back on what you are.

You're insane.

You're untrained.

Then explain.

You don't get to walk away.

This Institute, these hidden walls,

All your secrets, ancient laws.

You look at me like I'm too weak,

Like I don't get to speak.

You think this life is something new?

All the stories - they were true.

Angel's mark beneath your skin,

You've always carried it within.

Seraph blades, demons rise,

You say run - I say fight.

I'm not scared.

You should be.

But you're still standing next to me.

You push me back - I push again,

Enemies don't feel like this then.

You say we're wrong - but here we are,

Closer than we are apart.

Valentine, Morgenstern name -

Why does it echo like a flame?

Tell me why my blood feels known -

Like this war was always my own.

Some truths cut deeper than a blade,

Some lines were written, never made.

If we're bound by more than light -

It doesn't mean we don't fight.

What if this is all a lie?

What if we were meant to die?

Then we'll burn before we bend -

I'd choose you in every end.

Brother, lover, enemy -

Who are we supposed to be?

Valentine's twisted prophecy -

But he won't define you and me.

Let him say what he wants -

I don't care, because he's wrong.

They say run - we say fight,

Side by side into the night.

Angel blood, golden skin,

We won't let the darkness win.

Let them whisper, let them turn,

We were never meant to burn.

Shadowhunter in our veins,

Bound by blood - not by chains.

You said run - I said fight,

Bound by blood and burning light.

If this is sin, then let it be.

You're the only truth in me.

They say run - we ignite,

Side by side into the night.

Heaven's mark and mortal flame.

We don't run - we rise the same.

Side by side.

Side by side.
