The flora and fauna,
failure and your karma,
kill the ego,
have some honor,
water when wanted,
become a farmer of your own soul,
marijuana burning down,
turning pain into smoke,
not a victim of my circumstance,
but a witness to the growth,
life is a river,
and we’re floating on the current,
every second disappearing,
every breath becoming permanent,
we hold what we love,
then the hands have to open,
watch the people that we cherished
turn to memories unspoken,
death comes knocking,
and nobody gets to own it,
love becomes the lesson
when the heart can’t control it,
we lose the ones we love,
but the love never leaves,
it becomes the roots beneath us,
it becomes the air we breathe,
so grieve what you gotta grieve,
cry until the tears are gone,
then carry what they gave you
and keep carrying it on,
because nothing stays,
not the body, not the money,
not the summer, not the sorrow,
not the days that once were sunny,
we’re temporary creatures
trying desperately to matter,
building towers out of moments
while the universe gets larger,
and the ego says hold tighter,
but the soul says let go,
there’s a beauty in the ending
that the living never know,
the flower has to wither
for the seed to find the ground,
the tide has to retreat
before another wave comes round,
the forest feeds the future
with the bodies of the dead,
every fallen leaf becomes
another living thing ahead,
so I honor every person
that I couldn’t make stay,
every voice I still remember,
every face that faded away,
I don’t have to stop loving
just because they had to leave,
I can carry them forever
without refusing to grieve,
life is giving,
life is taking,
life is breaking,
life is making,
every loss becomes a language,
every scar becomes a statement,
every ending is a doorway,
every goodbye is a weight,
but the weight becomes a wing
when you finally accept fate,
water never fights the mountain,
water learns another route,
and maybe that’s what death is—
something love must flow around,
so loosen up your fingers,
let the old memories breathe,
love them without possessing,
let them go without leaving,
because nothing that we truly love
is ever completely lost,
it becomes part of who we are,
even when we pay the cost,
and when my own day comes,
when my own river meets the sea,
I hope I leave enough love behind
to keep flowing without me.
