Keep The Word Of God Before Us

When the lights of the world are calling,

And the crowd wants a softer sound,

When a message is shaped for comfort

So no conviction can be found,

Let the church not trade the holy

For a moment of applause;

Let the pulpit lift the Scriptures

And proclaim the Savior’s cross.

Keep the Word of God before us,

Keep the cross of Christ in view;

Jesus, You are still the center

Of everything we say and do.

Not the pleasures of this fallen world,

Not the praise of mortal men—

Let the church be built on Jesus,

Let Your living Word speak again.

Sin is more than wounded feelings,

More than failures we explain;

Every heart has turned from heaven,

Every soul deserves hell's flame.

Yet the holy Judge who sees us

Sent His spotless Son to die;

On the cross, the wrath was carried,

Mercy opened heaven’s sky.

Keep the Word of God before us,

Keep the cross of Christ in view;

Jesus, You are still the center,

Of everything we say and do.

Not the pleasures of this fallen world,

Not the praise of mortal men—

Let the church be built on Jesus,

Let Your living Word speak again.

Let the truth divide the darkness,

Let it search the hidden soul;

Call the proud to humble turning,

Call the broken to be whole.

To the greedy, lost, and wandering,

To the sinner stained with shame,

There is pardon through repentance,

There is life in Jesus’ name.

Keep the Word of God before us,

Keep the cross of Christ in view;

Jesus, You are still the center,

Of everything we say and do.

Let the nations hear the message:

Christ has conquered death and sin;

Let the church be built on Jesus—

Let the Word bring sinners in.
