Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Autumn always starts with a clean slate
Till the soot begins to settle on the iron gate
Now there's orange pulp dried beneath my fingernails
And the night is full of ancient, wicked little tales
I’ve been scraping out the insides, hollow and cold
Fitting a smile into a face that’s getting old
You think it's just a porch decoration under the moon
But the candle is flickering to a different tune
[Chorus]
Oh, bury the pumpkinseed deep in the clay
October is swallowing the rest of the day
A jagged tooth grin, a flicker of coal
A little bit of mischief taking over my soul
Keep the whisper quiet, let the sub-bass crawl
There’s a brand new face hanging on the wall
[Verse 2]
Hear the scrape of the knife on the hollow shell
That’s a rhythm that the autumn knows a little too well
Crisp rim-shots sound like a snapping stem
While the shadows dance around us, we are mocking them
You brought a little match trying to light up the dark
But the embers in my eyes already have the spark
Wax is dripping down onto the cold front step
Keeping every single secret that the season kept
[Bridge]
(Shadow Vocal drops an octave, perfectly mimicking the rhythm)
Carve it out, let it breathe, let it burn
Every single year the wheel has to turn
You thought it was a costume, a clever disguise
Till you saw the candle smoke rising in my eyes
(Main Vocal whispers)
Blow it out.
See what happens.
[Outro]
(Sound of a heavy knife slicing through rind, followed by wood creaking)
Just a shell.
Just a grin.
(The out-of-tune music box winds completely down)
Happy Halloween.
Style
a highly confidentsarcastic dark pop track that blends a laid-back neo-soul groove with a sharpmodern horror aesthetic at 98 bpm. the sonic landscape is anchored by a drippingpulsing sub-bass line that locks into a relaxed hip-hop swing. the percussion replaces bright pop elements with a crisp rim-shot pocket and visceralrhythmic foley sound design—incorporating the hollow scrape of a knife on a pumpkin shell and the faintrhythmic click of a lighter on the beat. the melodic atmosphere is shaped by eerievintage keys that sound slightly broken and out of tunepaired with a faint music box melody that slows down as the track progresses. the vocals are delivered with a smugunbothered attitude in a breathynear-whisper style. a lower-octave shadow vocal drops heavily into the mix during the bridgecreating a chilling dual-personality sound that balances a playful october mischief with a coldmagnetic composure.english
