The Day You Changed My World

I remember the days you came into this world,

Two little miracles, my beautiful girls.

I thought I knew love, thought I knew my heart,

But the day you were born, my life got a start.

The first time I held you, everything changed,

The world kept spinning, but mine rearranged.

Ten little fingers, your head on my chest,

In that moment, I knew I’d give you my best.

I wasn’t just living for myself anymore,

You gave me a reason worth fighting for.

Every fear, every dream, every road I would take,

I’d do it all twice for the smiles on your face.

Take every hit just to keep you safe.

I’ll teach you right from wrong, help you find your way,

Show you little life tricks that they never teach in school.

My greatest job in this world is being Dad to you.

Not every smiling face has good intentions.

Keep your word, know your worth, never beg to belong,

It’s okay to be scared, just keep moving on.

Learn from your mistakes, don’t be ashamed to fall,

You don’t have to be perfect to give it your all.

I’ll teach you how to laugh when the days feel long,

How to trust your heart and admit when you’re wrong.

And if somebody hurts you, you won’t face it alone,

You’ll always have a safe place to call home.

One day you’ll be older, with dreams of your own,

You’ll take your first steps into life on your own.

You’ll never outgrow the love behind these walls.

I can’t stop every tear or protect you from pain,

But I’ll help you find sunshine after the rain.
