Nana’s Song

Verse 1:

Upstairs in her little place above,

Was the smell of fried chicken and the sound of love.

Oatmeal cream pies in a cookie tin,

Chocolate milk cold — “come on, honey, come in.”

The Brady Bunch laughin’ on her TV glow,

While she folded towels neat and slow.

Pre-Chorus:

She never needed a pulpit to teach,

Her faith was in reach of every heartbeat.

Chorus:

’Cause keepin’ grandbabies fed is holy work,

Sayin’, “you want a snack, baby?” is holy work.

Keepin’ chocolate milk cold and hearts warm with love,

Foldin’ quilts, liftin’ prayers above.

Don’t underestimate the power of her worth,

Every act of lovin’ — it’s holy work.

Verse 2:

We’d curl up close, watch Golden Girls reruns,

Or Gilligan’s Island till the day was done.

She’d laugh that laugh that filled the room,

And the world felt safe in her perfume.

From fudge brownies to bedtime hugs,

She wrapped us up in a grace called love.

Pre-Chorus:

She never rushed, she just took her time,

Turnin’ ordinary days into something divine.

Chorus:

Yeah, keepin’ little hearts full is holy work,

Sayin’, “be sweet now,” is holy work.

Keepin’ chocolate milk cold and hearts warm with love,

Foldin’ quilts, liftin’ prayers above.

Don’t underestimate the power of her worth,

Every act of lovin’ — it’s holy work.

Bridge:

It’s the gospel in motion, love with no stage,

A quiet devotion that don’t fade with age.

Now I see her heart in my own two hands,

Carryin’ on the life she planned.

Chorus:

Yeah, raisin’ generations — that’s holy work,

Checkin’ on the kids — that’s holy work.

Pickin’ up after everyone, keepin’ love first,

Never askin’ for praise, just puttin’ hearts first.

Don’t underestimate the power of her worth —

Every act of lovin’ — it’s holy work.

Outro:

So when my babies laugh and the day gets loud,

I hope I make my Nana proud.

She taught me love’s not just in words —

It’s in the livin’…

That’s holy work.
