Where the Water Remembers

I've never been here before…

At least, that's what I believe.

So why does standing on this bridge

Feel like remembering a dream?

The rain is falling softly,

On the drawings in my hand.

A stranger in the shadows,

From a place I don't understand.

The water moves beneath me,

Like it's hiding something deep.

And every time I close my eyes,

There's a memory I can't keep.

I feel the cold against my skin,

A fear I cannot name.

Like somewhere in another life,

I stood here in the rain.

Why does this place feel familiar?

Why does my heart begin to race?

Why do I feel like someone's watching,

From a world I can't retrace?

What does the water remember,

That my mind has left behind?

Why do I keep seeing shadows,

Of a life I cannot find?

There's a stranger on the bridge,

And a voice I almost know.

Why does something deep inside me

Say I'm not alone?

If I've stood here once before,

If we've met in another life,

Will you tell me what I'm missing,

Or let me find it in my time?

I saw a face beneath the streetlight,

Though the rain concealed his eyes.

And something in the way he spoke,

Felt like a truth beneath a lie.

He didn't ask me to remember,

Didn't tell me who I'd been.

Just stood beside the silence,

Like he'd always known this scene.

And when the darkness drew too close,

He stepped into the light.

Not to tell me where to go,

But to make sure I was alright.

There's something in his quiet smile,

Something I can't explain.

Like he's heard me laugh before,

And watched me walk away.

What does the water remember,

That my mind has left behind?

Was leading to this mystery?

But I don't want another story,

Telling me what I should feel.

I want to know what's hidden,

And discover what is real.

What does the water remember,

That my heart is trying to find?

There's a thousand missing stories,

Waiting somewhere in my mind.

And the stranger on the bridge,

With the eyes I almost know,

Didn't ask me to follow,

Just reminded me I'm not alone.

And if the past should find me,

If the memories return someday,

I'll decide which door to open,

And which path becomes my way.

The rain keeps falling…

The water carries on.

And somewhere in the silence,

I hear a voice…

"There you are."
