Blue-Eyed Answer

“Blue-Eyed Answer”

A song for my son

We sat on the porch for the hundredth time

Talkin’ ‘bout life and this heart of mine

Was it full or was there still room to grow?

Your daddy had dreams of a little boy’s laugh

I held fear like a weight on my back

Could I do it again? I just didn’t know

So we prayed in the quiet and prayed in the mess

Asked God for peace, for a clear, simple “yes”

I was scared to fall deeper when I already felt weak

But the signs kept coming, soft and sure

And then there were two pink lines

Just like that, God’s plan became mine

Your daddy grinned, said, “Maybe he’s on his way”

And I just hoped for health and blue eyes

Still unsure of how my heart would rise

But the moment I saw you, I knew I’d never be the same

You were my blue-eyed answer

To every whispered prayer I prayed

Your sisters had my heart, no doubt

I didn’t know what loving a boy was about

Felt like a stranger I couldn’t yet see

But then you cried, and I held you near

And just like that, it all was clear

You were always meant to be part of me

‘Cause there were two pink lines

And somehow peace and fear entwined

But God knew the joy that was headed our way

Now your daddy’s proud, and I’m in awe

At your scrunchy smile and how you saw

Straight into my soul with those sky-colored eyes each day

You were my blue-eyed answer

To every whispered prayer I prayed

Now I rock you slow in the quiet night

And wonder how I ever questioned this life

You’re my yes, my gift, my sweetest grace

Can’t imagine a world without your face

It started with two pink lines

A leap of faith, a love redefined

You filled every space I didn’t know was bare

Now you’re here, and I’m undone

By the joy of my baby boy, my son

With your mama’s smile and eyes like a prayer

You’re my blue-eyed answer

To every whispered prayer I prayed

Now I see what God was doing all along

You were the piece that made our family strong

I was scared, but He knew what I’d find—

A love so deep, it still takes me by surprise

My blue-eyed answer…

My son.
