Closure

You leave the window half-open

So the room can breathe again

I fold your note beside the coffee

And read the last line twice

Every little thing you left here

Still knows the shape of your hands

I’m learning how to hold the silence

Without asking it to stay

If you’re somewhere past the river

Let the morning find you kind

I’ll keep one small light burning

Not to pull you back this time

We were more than what was broken

More than what we couldn’t save

I can carry all the good things

And still walk away

The old train shakes the dishes

As it climbs beyond the town

I hear your laugh inside the hallway

Then the house settles back down

I don’t need a perfect ending

Just a road I can believe

There is room beneath the sorrow

For a little room to breathe

If you’re somewhere past the river

Let the morning find you kind

I’ll keep one small light burning

Not to pull you back this time

We were more than what was broken

More than what we couldn’t save

I can carry all the good things

And still walk away

Maybe love is not a doorway

Maybe it’s the key we keep

For the rooms we leave behind us

When we finally learn to sleep

If you’re somewhere past the river

Let the morning find you kind

I’ll keep one small light burning

Till the dark gives up the sky

We were more than what was broken

More than what we couldn’t save

I can carry all the good things

And still walk away

Still walk away

With the good things
