Things I Used To Tell You

I used to tell you everything

The stupid little things

Who I liked, who I didn't

Every silly little thing

You'd listen when I'd talk

Even when I talked too much

You always seemed to know

When I needed someone

There was always someone I could call

Someone who would understand

I'd talk about the boys

And you'd just sit and listen

Now you ask me what's going on

And I just shake my head

Say it's nothing

Say I'm tired

And change the subject instead

I don't know when it changed

I don't know how it got this far

I just know I used to tell you everything

Now I don't know where to start

There are things I don't tell you

Things I don't know how to say

I tell you that I'm happy

Then I look the other way

You used to know my secrets

You used to know my heart

Now I'm standing right beside you

And somehow we're worlds apart

You know me better than most

That's what makes this so hard

Because I know you'd see straight through me

If I let you get that far

(I can't...)

We still have our stupid fights

We still know how to annoy

Sometimes I walk away

Before I say too much

But you can see I'm different

Even when I say I'm fine

And sometimes you don't ask me

Like you already know the lie

There are people I still think about

People I don't see enough

And one of you still looks at me

Like you remember who I was

Before I started hiding

Before I learned to pretend

Before saying "I'm alright"

Was easier than letting you in

I keep making excuses

Keep saying I'm okay

But every time I push you back

I miss you more the next day

There are things I don't tell you

Things I don't know how to say

I tell you that I'm happy

Then I look the other way

You used to know my secrets

You used to know my heart

Now I'm standing right beside you

And somehow we're worlds apart

You know when something's wrong

Before I even say a word

And that's the part that scares me

Because you might already know

(don't look at me...)

Maybe you think I've changed

Maybe you think I don't care

Maybe you've wondered where I've gone

When I'm standing right there

I haven't stopped loving you

I haven't stopped needing you

I just don't know how to explain

What I don't understand myself

I wish I could sit beside you

Like I used to do before

Tell you about the stupid things

Tell you who I liked

And not be scared anymore

There are things I don't tell you

And I hate the way that feels

I'm telling everyone I'm happy

Because I need it to be real

You used to know my secrets

You used to know me best

And maybe that's what hurts the most

I can't tell you this one yet

But if I ever find the words

If I ever let you in

I hope you'll still be there

Like you always were back then

(please still be there...)

I miss talking to you

About everything and nothing

I miss being the girl

Who could tell you anything

Before I had something to hide

(I'm still here...)
