Momma Bear

Raised in the backwoods by a momma bear,

Thick boned, blackened teeth, leather skin,

Meaner than a grizzly bear.

On the mountain top, chopping the wood,

Deerskin, thin-skinned, acid spit, red blood,

Walking in the snow barefoot.

Old mule, old fool, six-shooter, buck knife,

Spitting tobacco like a grasshopper would,

Chomping homemade chaw.

Pulling the cork on a jug of moonshine,

Smoking from a peace pipe,

Black night,

wood burning, smoke churning,

See your breath—colder than a witch’s spit.

No tractor, no fuel,

Living like a human mule,

Beating my drum, nobody comes,

Momma didn’t raise no fool.
